Emerging Farmers
Approximately 40% of livestock in South Africa is in the possession of the Emerging Farming sector, where productivity remains low. Dr Ngethu, of ComMark and the National Agricultural Marketing Council, attributes this low productivity to a lack of knowledge and the incorrect application of the basics of livestock farming, including the selection of breeding stock, management of production phases, especially breeding times, good animal health and proper livestock nutrition programmes.
As the leading supplier of ruminant feeds, Voermol understands that knowledge of farming methods and livestock nutrition are key to the success of any livestock farming operation. Therefore, we offer farmers training in livestock nutrition via specific training sessions and at Farmers’ Information Days. To assist emerging farmers to gain access to the market, we have also formed partnerships with service providers that have an interest in developing this sector.
As the communal farming system often means no private ownership of land and no feeding facilities, Voermol manufactures a range of products to cater for the needs of the Emerging Farmer. Products are formulated for grazing animals and manufactured for easy handling and home mixing.
